Justice League 2018 Re-vamp Preview (06/06/2018)

Justice League 2001 Animated Series

In early 2018, Scott Snyder announced the re-vamp of possibly the most famous superhero group there is, The Justice League. The Comic Corner looks ahead to the start of the new series, and we can’t wait!

Scott Snyder will be leading the series, and looking at Snyder’s previous work, we can expect this to be fantastic also. Joining him will be two of the best artists that the comic book industry has to offer, Jim Cheung (formally of Marvel) and Jorge Jimenez. Cheung will be illustrating the first issue, whilst Jimenez will be taking control of issue number 2.

2018’s Justice League looks to be modelled from the popular 2001 animated series. The new team will include the likes of; Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Cyborg, Martian Manhunter and Hawkgirl. The first issue will be available for purchase on June 6th.

This year’s Justice League team is a near mirror image of the 2001 animated series, baring Cyborg and Aquaman, which suggests Snyder is delving into the past for inspiration for the series. This is also the first time Martian Manhunter has made an appearance in The Justice League since New 52, but the less said about that the better, eh? It appears his involvement is going to be crucial in the progression of the story as outlined in the DC tease, “Martian Manhunter struggles to protect the team from an incoming threat that will shatter the world as the know it while a familiar face strikes out on a dark path…”.

Jim Cheung joins DC after a 10-year stint with Marvel, working on a huge number of their series’, and there is no doubt that he will be greatly missed at the competitor company. During the DC press release, he had this to say, ““I am extremely honoured, and happy, to be able to launch JUSTICE LEAGUE with Scott and Jorge,” said Cheung. “It has been many years since I've had the pleasure of working at DC, but when Scott first mentioned this opportunity, I knew I couldn't say no. His energy and excitement has been infectious, and I can't wait to share what we have in store! I can't think of a more perfect book to return to DC on! These characters are ones that I grew up loving, and the prospect of being able to leave my mark on them, leaves me thrilled.”

There is just over a week to go before we can get our hands on the new series, and personally cannot remember being this excited about a new series in a long time.
